Musical Rehearsal

So, I just had the first rehearsal for my school's musical. The musical, in case any of you are interested, is called Once On This Island, and it's written by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. Anyway. In the musical I got the part of Beauxhomme, the father of one of the romantic leads. We weren't doing individual part stuff today, instead we worked on one song, called Some Say. The singing was fairly easy, but then we had to do a dance to it.

I should have expected it, really. It is a musical. The usually entails singing, acting and dancing. Now, I'm not exactly the most coordinated of people. Actually, let's not mix words here, I'm probably one of the least coordinated of people. I trip over on flat, level ground. I drop eggs all the time. Additional cliched example of how uncoordinated I am.

So he showed us the first couple of steps, and we went through them a couple of times. "Yeah, I can probably get this after a couple more tries." I thought. He promptly moved on to the next three steps, all of which I completely failed to learn before he moved on. By this time I had forgotten the first couple of steps that he taught us, while simultaneously learning nothing about the new steps. This has lead me to the conclusion that learning how to dance is draining my mind of knowledge.

Oh, and get this bit: That was one of the simple dances. That was one of the dances that was supposed to be easy to get.

I predict that this musical shall be a rousing success.
